Review by hotel critic
During my recent Christmas stay at Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku, I was enchanted by the seamless blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics and contemporary design. The serene lantern-lit walkway, which leads to a modern yet cozy lobby adorned with warm woods and grey stones, creates a tranquil atmosphere. My room, even as a budget option, felt like a sanctuary with its tatami flooring and plush bedding, providing a perfect reprieve from Tokyo’s bustling energy. One of the most memorable highlights was enjoying breakfast served in tiered jubako boxes, a true testament to Japan’s culinary artistry. The offerings were not just delicious but also beautifully presented, reminding me of the intricate connections between food and culture that I deeply cherish. Coupled with the flawless service that truly embodies Japan’s renowned omotenashi, my experience felt genuinely special. Having fresh yukatas and tabi socks daily was a lovely touch, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the ryokan experience. As a culinary critic, I couldn't help but appreciate the hotel's proximity to local restaurants in Shinjuku, making it easy to explore the vibrant food scene with fellow travelers. For anyone yearning for a calm oasis in the heart of the city, Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku is an absolute must.
